29 Sep The power of a seed
Some time ago I started speaking to God about something I was observing. It seemed to me like there is this tension between our understanding of grace and the practical working of the Local Church. The way the Holy Spirit answered me settled this matter for me once and for all. God took me back to the Power of the Seed!
Through His death, burial and resurrection Jesus gave us salvation freely. You cannot work for that salvation. You cannot earn that salvation. You can only RECEIVE that salvation through faith, by believing it in your heart. That is the Good News of GRACE.
But this is where the confusion comes in – what about ‘works’ then? What should I do with my life if everything is done? What about serving in church? Isn’t that just religious dead works?
The answer is this: Your salvation is a FREE GIFT! All the rest that God has given to you is in SEED FORM!
The Holy Spirit gave me two examples: Firstly, a farmer can believe that God has given him the increase according to Deuteronomy 28:4, 11. He can pray, he can believe, and he can confess God’s Word over that farm! But until he sends out his workers to plant seeds – HE WILL HAVE NO HARVEST! Secondly, a man may desire to have a family. He can pray with his wife, he can confess that he will have children, but until a seed is deposited all he will have is a desire. Nothing will come from his desires until he acts on them in faith!
If you want to understand how God’s kingdom works – look at the process of a seed! All the potential is in a seed, but first, it is sown, then it grows, and then it produces fruit.
There can be NO increase without seed. Any increase without seed is illegitimate … it’s either debt or illegal! Whatever you sow, you will reap.
You bless future generations through seed. Money is seed. In Hebrews 7:8-10 we see the process where one generation (Abraham) blesses future generations (his descendants, the Levites) through his giving. Words are also seed. Think about the seeds you are sowing in your children’s lives today. What you are saying to them on a constant basis will shape their future.
Your biggest weapon is seed. A seed is the only thing that will work on your behalf – long after you are gone! My great-grandfather and grandfather aren’t walking on this earth anymore, but part of them is walking this earth through my children and me. Your biggest weapon in fighting for your family and fighting in God’s Kingdom is the seed you sow every day. The seeds you sow daily through your words, your actions, your time and your money will live on long after you are not here anymore.
Jesus paid with His life to get you everything you need for life in godliness. It is in you in seed form. Go ahead and plant it!
