05 Dec What you think is who you are
Proverbs 23:6–7 (NKJV)
Do not eat the bread of a miser,
Nor desire his delicacies;
FOR AS HE THINKS IN HIS HEART, SO IS HE.
You are who you are because of what you think and believe in your heart. My friend, if you can grasp this truth it will be a crossroads in your life!
Many of us were raised like this: “Oh, it’s not your fault my dear, it’s the white people, or the black people; the rich people or the foreigner’s fault. It’s because the government isn’t doing its job. If only your daddy was a different man…”
That’s not what God tells us. What YOU are thinking and what YOU believe in your heart – that is making your life what it is! And what you are thinking and believing is going to PRODUCE. Genesis tells us – everything produces after its own kind. Apples produce apples. Sheep produce sheep. When a man and woman want to have children, they don’t fast and pray: ‘Oh God please don’t let us have a donkey – we seriously want a boy or a girl!’
What is our heart’s belief producing?
My friend, please understand that when your heart is filled with negativity and pessimism, it will produce negativity and pessimism in your life. If you’re always complaining about bad service – guess what? You’ll end up getting the meanest customer service person everywhere you go! If you are always worried and living in fear of crime – guess what? You will be surrounded by crime stories wherever you go.
If you’re thinking HATE it’s going to produce HATE.
If you’re thinking LACK it’s going to produce LACK.
If you’re thinking SICKNESS it’s going to produce SICKNESS.
Because everything produces after its own kind!
What you are thinking and believing in your heart defines your life. It determines the boundaries of your life. If this is true in the negative sense, it will also be true in the positive sense, won’t it? So, if you move from bitterness to Jesus – how big do you think your life will be? Instead of thinking poverty and lack shift to what Jesus has done for you on the cross. Instead of thinking fear and unbelief receive faith and joy in Christ.
Here is another KEY: Nobody can control your thinking FOR you! You control what you think about, isn’t that true? If you can change what you’re thinking and believing – you can change your life. It doesn’t matter where you came from – it matters where you are going! It doesn’t matter what other people think – it matters what YOU think!
My friend, if your thought life feels like it’s running out of control, remember Jesus! He is a safe place. He is your guard! Don’t look to circumstances or your own shortcomings – look to Jesus! He said that what we keep in our hearts will increase or decrease us. Let’s allow what we keep in our hearts to release God’s power in our lives and not hinder it.
