08 Aug God’s Priority
Several years ago the peach tree in our back yard bore an abundant load of fruit. We were really looking forward to enjoying them but at the crucial point we missed picking the harvest. Within days the fruit had either been eaten by the birds or dropped to the ground. It was quite a disappointment.
The same is true spiritually: if you miss the harvest, you miss out on the fruit. When it is time to gather we should be wise and not miss the opportunity God has given us.
I believe that the church is moving into harvest time. It is time to gather and possess all that God has for us. Usually when we talk about ‘harvest’ we think money and possessions. But what if God has a different harvest in mind? In Luke 15 Jesus tells three stories that reveal to us something of God’s heart.
“… there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.”
Heaven’s priority is souls. What truly brings joy to God’s heart? Every sinner who comes to Christ. The only thing that can overcome the finality of death is the blood of Jesus. That is what we should be sharing with everyone around us.
Of course the Lord blesses us financially and materially. But our time and money is wasted if we don’t spend it to make an eternal difference. At harvest time our priority should be the priority of Jesus. Let’s focus where God is focusing and see a harvest of souls come into His kingdom.
